Random Darwin photos

Settling in to Darwin

Well we finally got our furniture and it's almost all unpacked now, but we have yet to take pictures and post them so you can check out the final state of our new digs. This will come eventually (I think...)

So while you are waiting here are a couple of random pictures from Darwin for you.

Casuarina beach bike path after the rain

It's been raining a lot in the last couple of weeks - turns out the first couple of weeks of nice weather were fairly unusual for the rainy season up here. Now it's caught up I think, and it's impressive how much rain the sky can hold!

Craig and I tempted the weather gods this afternoon so we could test out our bikes on the Nightcliff/Casuarina forshore, and I've now realised that there is nothing like a huge looming black cloud to make me ride a little faster!

The green tree frogs though LOVE the rain. As soon as it starts raining all the tree frogs starting croaking. There are tons of them, and boy are they loud for their size! Good thing Craig and I can sleep through anything so we still find them cute.

That said, we are still finding plenty of blue sky available to enjoy coffees and drinks at the Beach front pub, and evening dinners at the free Nightcliff Foreshore BBQs.

Tales of South Australian Wines

Craig and I are taking Dad's strict orders about quickly drinking our SA wines very seriously (because wines don't keep very well in Darwin and you wouldn't want to put such nice stuff to waste). We have currently managed to get through quite a number of bottles.

This was our latest Dad, a very very nice Shiraz from the Yalumba winery in the Barossa that we enjoyed with steak at our first backyard BBQ meal.

We thoroughly enjoyed it, and thought you and mom might appreciate a picture of the event. :)

Oh, man, here I am getting all excited about moving to a 2-bdrm apt at Younge & Bloor - and look at where you guys are set up! Nice to see that Australians know what a real BBQ should be, not these little metal boxes we get here...xoxo C, B & J (sounds like a sandwich...)

Thanks for the picture of the kookaburra sitting in the old gum tree! And for the lovely wine dinners --- by the way, we have a brand new BBQ waiting for Craig - if he doesn't mind cooking in subzero weather (some do it here...)
