Absolutely beautiful country.

Plenty of beautiful gorges, rock art and walks in the ranges around Alice. This was a trip out to the East MacDonnells with the other med students.
Cycling to Simpson's Gap
MacDonnell Ranges
Top of Mount Gillen
Beautiful hike with great views of Alice Springs.
Ange, Kirsty and Alice
(note for the confused: the Todd River is dry most of the time so feet are required on boats for travel across the sand, a la flintstones! lots of crazy fun)
Camping
The Alice area has lots of great camping. We managed a few weekend trips to Redbank Gorge (http://www.outback-australia-travel-secrets.com/west-macdonnell-ranges.html) and to go fossicking for garnets at Gemtree, northeast of Alice Springs.
Lots of hot work digging, sifting, washing and generally playing around in the red dirt to find little red rocks that glint red in the sun.
Unfortunately mine is the one on the left - but we were going for quality not quantity...
Now all I need is a good jewellery designer!
Trips to remote Aboriginal Communities
The advantages of being a student in the NT continue in Alice as we get to hop onto several flights over the ranges and 4WDing along dirt roads to distant Central Australia communities.
Views over the West MacDonnell ranges

Mt Leibig
Returning to Alice from Santa Theresa with some of the nurses running the child health checks.
Our timing was perfect as we arrived just in time for the community's Art Centre anniversary and local author book launch where Paul Kelly was performing.
Return trip along the West ranges from Hermannsburg.
Enjoying lunch in the park with the other med students
I loved my elective here. Medicine was interesting and activities around fantastic. Can't wait to come back down to explore it again later with Craig...

Mmm. Things are looking a bit dry up there.
