We finally managed to get in our Deep Creek camping trip in November. It was lovely.

















Christmas at Bedford Park and in the Grampians


After a small Adelaide pre-Christmas, Craig and I joined Matt and Pam for Christmas with their family in Bendigo. A great 'chrissy' with the usual excessive amounts of yummy food, and lots of great games and relaxation time. Thanks Matt, Pam and family!

On the way home we stopped in the Grampians for a brief camping stay - just enough to wet our appetites for more time there in the future.

Barossa Valley 2007

Hi All!

Here are the beginning snippets of our trip with Mom and Dad through Australia. There are a zillion pictures that need to be sorted through and they'll fill a couple of pages so here is just a start, in no particular order unfortunately (give us some time, we'll get there!).

This is a little video of the trip to Barossa Valley we did this weekend. It was a 'lovely' weekend, as Mom would say, full of wine, port, food, great scenery, and luckily some beautiful sunshine.

Deep Creek Conservation Park


Craig, Luci and I did a nice hike in Deep Creek Conservation Park this past weekend. (http://www.parks.sa.gov.au/deepcreek/index.htm, about 1 1/2 hour south of us)

Check out our pictures of the beautiful southern Fleurieu Peninsula Coastline, and Kangaroo Island.

This fun coastal flower is strangely called PigFace - I don't get it. But the leaves are really cool - I personally prefer to call them Ocean Fries.

Uni update

Post-exam celebrations at the local wineries...

At uni we've finally finished (and passed! yeah!) our last set of "school" exams, and have moved into the Transition to Clinical Practice unit - aka shove our tired little brains full of practical information (and extra other stuff too) before they let us loose in the hospital next year!

Scary...

Some of you will be very happy to know that I've started the first 3 weeks learning all about geriatrics (!!), allied health, rehab and chronic care. And so far I have managed not to kill anyone, or make anyone cry (kidding - they don't let us do that for another 2 1/2 years yet).


We've also finally gotten our free student clinic (aka TIMS Place) started, with its official opening last Saturday. It's become a health screening clinic within a government run 'allied health' setting, instead of the free clinics like they have at home, but at least it's a good start (it is the first free student clinic in Australia!). It was great to finally meet our first clients after all the work that some of us put into it over the last couple of years.

Koala Month

Craig and I have seen tons of koalas this month! It started with the 14 we spotted in Belair Park, then we saw a couple at Morialta last weekend, including a mom and baby which were REALLY cute; and finally a little toddler one in our very own backyard!! The last one was a little confused cuz he had gotten up a wattle tree instead of a eucalypte - but he eventually figured it out!

Belair National Park

On fathers day (aussie date) we went for a hike in Belair National Park and managed to see 14 koalas!! A couple of them were fairly close so we got a few good pictures.




Koalas apparently sleep 18 hours a day, and are generally drunk on eucalyptus leaves the rest of the time! As a consequence, most sightings of koalas don't involve a lot of movement...

We also got a few pretty pictures from our trip to the Riverland, but decided it didn't warrant a whole blog page. So we'll put in a couple here.

The River Murray

The Murray is South Australia's main river system. (It also goes through Victoria, N.S.W. and Queensland and therefore is a contentious management/political topic for this water-starved country.)

We went up there for a weekend with school to visit the area, and check out the 3rd year placement sites in the area at Renmark, Berri, Loxton, etc.

There really are a lot of sheep here!
They are very cute (though apparently not so smart...)

Winter in Adelaide - random photos to keep you up to date.

Here's a picture of Craig sitting in the living room sun enjoying my new Harry Potter book that arrived in the mail last week (thanks Mom!).
While he's relaxing, I'm upstairs studying in my office - I've been forbidden to read Harry Potter until my exams are over in a week and a half. :(

But it's not all hard work for E (ask Craig - he's just dreaming of being a student cuz of all the cool things I get to do! I am of course milking it for all it's worth as I know it won't last long...).
Below is the Flinders Uni contingent at the med student run Developing World Conference that was in Adelaide this year (http://www.amsa.org.au/dwc2007/). This was the Dinner of Nations banquet which I didn't actually dress up for (oops).


And at school it isn't all study either.

In the mean time, Craig is off fishing in the Yorke Peninsula with the 'boys'. This is on the Edithburg jetty. Unfortunately Craig is still convinced there are no fish in the Adelaide waters. Or at least they don't like him!

(and so he is really looking forward to Darwin...)

Had several rounds of great oysters that we bought on the side of the road for $5/dozen. Mmm...

Had fun taking cool photography, such as this shot of an on-coming storm. At night we got to watch cool lightning while enjoying a glass of wine from our cabin balcony - yup, it's a tough life...

We hit a round of golf on the Sunday on this cute country course that had a great water hazard where you had to tee off over the ocean. Craig made it, I didn't -
