Camping trip to Douglas Hot Springs

Just hanging out with Nan & Pop

Time to wet a line, no luck this trip.

Checking our cherabin pot, none this time but we did get 2 overnight.

Enjoying the hot springs water mixing with the cooler river water.

Hanging out in Darwin, visiting most coffee shops and Casuarina mall ( for a/c )

Story time with Pop, Maddy enjoyed this.

I went crabbing with a work mate and came home with 9 good keepers. It was a feast of mud crab... yummy.

Off to Corroboree Billabong for our sunrise cruise. This has become a ritual if we have any visitors, it's a beautiful spot.

Comb-crested Jacana

Jabiru casually walking past a croc.

White-bellied Sea Eagle

Oh no look out... Nan's got the wheel!!

Dancing brolgas

Happy B'day Pop

Breakfast time, bacon & egg roll anyone??

Pied Cormorant

Finally got one, a 57 cm barramundi.

Little fresh water croc

Back in Darwin we had sunset drinks on Nightcliff foreshore for our Mums & Bubs group to celebrate all the bubs approximate 6 month b'day.

It was all too much for Maddy... fast asleep.

Catching up with an old Yarrowitch friend, more coffee time..

Checking out the botanical gardens.

Time to test out our new car, 2003 Land Rover Defender. We went on a camping trip to Kakadu. This time we had Jim Jim and Twin falls on our agenda now that we have a 4x4.

Crossing the South Alligator river on the old Jim Jim road. This was our first stop, lunch and fishing.

Pop with his first Barra, no keepers but we did see a fair few just sunning themselves near the surface that were around the 60-80 cm mark... just wouldn't touch the lures... bugger!

On the road again...

Kakadu escarpment in the distance.

Cooling off after a long day on the road.
Note: Nan's empties under her chair!!! The heat must have been getting to her. It was 37-39 degrees that weekend!

Forest Kingfisher
(or Little Kingfisher - feel free to join the debate)

Next morning we were off to see the falls.

It was a fun drive, through paperbark forests and river crossings as well as some sandy areas.

Catching the ferry up to Twin Falls

Twin Falls in the dry season.

Hiking up to the plunge pool of the falls

come on Pop....

Off to Jim Jim Falls now

Collecting some firewood for the night.

Looking up the river to where Jim Jim Falls should be. Unfortunately they dry up towards the end of the dry season.

A quick cool off dip in Jim Jim plunge pool

Heading back to camp.

Sunset walk

Yellow Waters Billabong

Spiral Pandanus

Pop got into his painting during their stay. He did a nice one of "Billabong Lillies" for Maddy.

Painting: Twin Falls

Sunset drinks at Dripstone Cliffs, another ritual for any visitors.

Enjoying Darwin's waterfront on Nan and Pop's last day before they head home.

Wow, you guys make parenting look fun! I think we also have car envy - dont tell the Triton. It may just be that the 4x4 feature of your car has been utilised.
Looking forward to Maddy's visit. Glad you can both come with her!
Wow, E, you've got boobs! Enjoy it while you can ;) .
I'm envious of the fact that you actually NEED a 4x4. I just got a 1x1. Ha ha.
Can't wait to meet little Maddy!
